Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Cypress Creek Fire Department

Oct 28, 2020

In September 2020, Captain Lawrence and Captain Delaney of Cypress Creek Fire Department (CCFD) began organizing a uniform fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness. The captains worked together to design and commission Breast Cancer Awareness themed uniform shirts to be sold to and worn by CCFD Personnel during the month of October. The BCA uniform shirts feature a unique pink awareness ribbon and firehose nozzle design.

The importance of giving back to the community is not lost on CCFD, so it was very important to find a local program to donate the proceeds of this fundraiser to. After several days of research, Office Assistant Rumfield came across a support group funded by the Texas Oncology Foundation. Rumfield reached out to Texas Oncology Practice Administrator, Lori Johnson, to facilitate a donation to the foundation.

The Texas Oncology Foundation was established in 1997, to support patients “by focusing on all aspects of survivorship” and “working alongside those in need, within their communities, through the total cancer journey” (texasoncologyfoundation.org). The Foundation operates in conjunction with the more than 210 Texas Oncology (TXO) locations across Texas and SE Oklahoma. TXO has an office located in the Willowbrook Area of Houston, TX. This location happens to be situated within an area of Houston Fire Department’s territory that is serviced by Cypress Creek Fire Department on a contract basis.

The CCFD Breast Cancer Awareness uniform shirts were sold for $15 each. The profit from this sale, including several donations, totaled $750 and will be slated directly to the Willowbrook office. The donation was made on Monday, October 26, 2020. This was an exciting opportunity to give back to the community and contribute to support programs for cancer patients in our area.
